Security Masterfile Code Manual

Security Events Codes & Trading Status

Security Status Codes

The three status codes are as follows:

C

=

Coded

T

=

Available for trading and settlement

D

=

Defunct

The precise significance of each status is explained as follows.

Coded status:

This status is used for securities that have only skeleton data on file, and for special items that are not available for the reporting of trades through The Stock Exchange Settlement system. The event codes associated with the status do not describe true events, but it is convenient to consider them as event codes.

Available for trading and settlement status:

This status is used for all securities in which bargains may be dealt with between Stock Exchange Member Firms under the provision of Rule 535, and which have sufficient data on file for these bargains to be handled by The Stock Exchange’s central settlement system. The event codes associated with this status mainly indicate security description changes that do not affect the code number used to identify the security.

Defunct status:

An item and its code number on the file may cease to be required or serviced. Of the item is a security, trading in a new version may continue under a new code number. An item can be made defunct only if an event associated with the defunct status has occurred, otherwise it remains coded or available for trading and settlement.

  3. The market in the shares is too narrow.

The security remains in existence and the 520 or 525 Notice issued will indicate whether applications to make specific bargains under Rules 535(2) or 535(4) (a) may be submitted. If the 520 or 525 Notice makes no mention of specific bargains, the provisions of permanent notice C29 apply.
